Please note, at this age level, all rules should be understood with the players enjoyment of the game. Penalizing players for every infraction should not be the emphasis, but rather guidance and encouragement.
*Indirect free kick: The ball is placed at the location of the infraction and the team awarded the free kick gets to kick the ball unimpeded by their opponent. The team who was penalized must be 5 yards from the ball when the restart happens. Indirect free kicks require that the ball be touched by another player before the player kicking the ball touches it a second time or the ball is scored. The ball can be touched by a teammate or an opponent.
- No official referees, one coach on the field per team helping guide the game
- 3 vs 3 on the field
- No Goalies
- No offsides
- 30 minute game, two 15 minute halves with 5 minute intervals for substitutions
- Halftime is 5 minutes
- Game starts with a kick off by one team, opposite team must be outside the circle during kick off.
- Kick off after a goal is scored

- Heading the ball is not allowed

- Use of the hands is not allowed
- All infractions are started with an *indirect free kick from the location of the infraction.

DLSO U8 Rules
- Games will be played 5v5. There are no goalkeepers or goal guarding by a defender allowed.
- Game ball is a size 4 and should be provided by the home team.
- Games will consist of two 20-minute halves with a 5-minute half-time break.
- Referees will call for substitutions approximately every 5 minutes unless there is an injury.
- As shown on the game schedule, the “home” team will kick off at the start of the game. The “visitor” team will kick off to start the second half. Teams will change playing sides after half-time.
- All players must wear shin guards and they must be covered completely by long soccer socks.
- No jewelry is permitted – this includes watches, wristbands, necklaces, rings and earrings. Earrings may not be taped over or covered with a band-aid; they must be removed.
- Kick-offs: The ball must be passed in any direction and opponents are not to encroach until the ball is played. The ball must be passed to another player before scoring. A goal may not be scored directly from the kick-off.
- Goals can only be scored from within the opponent’s half of the field. A goal scored from beyond the center line will result in a goal kick for the defending team.
- General Play: Players need to be in the general vicinity of the ball. When a team gains possession of the ball, all of that team’s players need to move to the opponent’s half of the field. “Goal guarding” or “cherry picking” are not allowed. Persistent infringement of this rule may result in a goal kick by the opposite team.
- .Fouls: Non-incidental handballs and other fouls will only result in an indirect free kick.
- Throw-ins: In the case of an improper throw-in, the referee will explain the proper method before allowing additional attempts until done correctly.
- Off-side will not be enforced at this age level.
- Slide-tackling is not allowed.
- Goal kicks will be taken from the edge of the goal box. All players from both teams must stand beyond the goal-kick line and may not touch the ball until it has cleared the goal-kick line.
- Corner kicks should be taken as normal. Defenders must be at least 5 yards away.
- Headers are not allowed at this age level.
U10 REC
DLSO U10 Rules
- Games will be played 8v8.
- Game ball is a size 4 and should be provided by the home team.
- Games will consist of two 25-minute halves with a 5-minute half-time break.
- Substitutions can be requested during any stoppage of play but may only take place when direct permission from the referee is given. Players must stand at the center line when waiting for the substitution.
- The “home” team will kick off at the start of the game. The “visitor” team will kick off to start the second half. Teams will switch playing sides for the second half.
- All players must wear shin guards and they must be covered completely by long soccer socks.
- No jewelry is permitted – this includes watches, wristbands, necklaces, rings and earrings. Earrings may not be taped over or covered with a band-aid; they must be removed.
- Toe cleats, metal cleats or any footwear considered dangerous by the referee is not permitted.
- Kick-offs: The ball must be passed in any direction and opponents are not to encroach until the ball is played. The ball must be passed to another player before scoring. A goal may not be scored directly from the kick-off.
- Fouls: Non-incidental handballs and all other fouls will result in an indirect free kick, even inside the penalty box. There are no penalty kicks.
- Throw-ins: In the case of an improper throw-in, the referee will explain the proper method before allowing one additional attempt. After one additional attempt, an improper throw-in will result in the throw-in being awarded to the opposing team.
- Off-side will be enforced at this age level.
- Slide-tackling is not allowed.
- Goal kicks will be taken from the top of the penalty box (18yd box). Opposing players must be at least 5 yards away from the kicker.
- Corner kicks should be taken as normal. Opponent must be at least 8 yds away.
