Introduction to Competitive Soccer at Central Valley FC
Competitive soccer at Central Valley FC offers motivated players the opportunity to advance their skills and compete at a higher level within the Oregon Youth Soccer Association (OYSA) competitive structure. Unlike recreational programs, where the focus is primarily on fun and participation, our competitive teams emphasize player development, commitment, and performance in a structured and challenging environment.
Central Valley FC teams participate in OYSA’s Statewide Competitive League (SCL) formally know as the Premier division and Regional Competitive League (RCL) formally known as the Classic division, which provide progressively higher levels of competition. Players are placed on teams through an evaluation and tryout process, ensuring that each athlete trains and competes with others of similar ability and ambition.
What to Expect:
- Year-Round Commitment: Competitive soccer extends beyond the traditional fall season. Teams typically train and play in both the fall and spring leagues, with optional tournaments and training opportunities during winter and summer months.
- Training & Games: Players can expect 2–3 practices per week with weekend league matches and select tournaments.
- Travel: Depending on the league (SCL or RCL), teams may travel throughout the region or state for matches.
- Player Development: Emphasis is placed on technical skill, tactical understanding, fitness, and teamwork in preparation for higher levels of play.
- Parental Support: Families should anticipate a greater time and financial commitment than the recreational program, including travel, uniforms, and tournament fees.
Please note: Central Valley FC is based in Central Point, Oregon, and is dedicated to nurturing soccer talent from District 6, while warmly welcoming players from all cities. When selecting players for a team, we prioritize fostering local talent from District 6 to strengthen our community ties. We highly encourage families to participate in their local clubs first if one exists.
